Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) recently joined his fellow legislators in Albany to pay tribute to the distinguished members of the United States Military Academy (USMA) on West Point Day. The event aimed to acknowledge the significant contributions of West Point to the nation’s defense and leadership.

Established by President Thomas Jefferson in 1802, the USMA has maintained its legacy as a hub for cultivating leaders of character. With a history spanning over two centuries, the Academy remains dedicated to its mission of educating, training, and inspiring cadets to serve their country with honor and distinction.

Reflecting on the importance of the civilian-military relationship, DiPietro emphasized, "West Point Day serves as a reminder of the deep bond between our civilian and military communities. It is a testament to the mutual support and trust that supports our nation’s strength. We must respect and uphold this relationship as we strive for a more secure and prosperous future."

In his closing remarks, DiPietro invoked the words of President Thomas Jefferson, stating, "As we commemorate West Point Day, I want to remember the words of President Thomas Jefferson: ‘I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.’ May we uphold the values of liberty, guided by the principles of honor, courage and commitment instilled by the United States Military Academy."

The event served as a poignant reminder of the enduring values and principles that form the foundation of the United States Military Academy, echoing a commitment to national defense and the preservation of liberty.
